DESTINATIONs
Negombo
Located in the West coast of the country, Negombo is the closest and easiest to reach tourist hub when you arrive Sri Lanka (Just 10 km from the airport). Gifted with a long, sandy beach, Negombo is a city of sand, sea and sails, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The city is the fifth largest in the island. Tourism and fishing are the two key industries that dominate the economy of the area.
Early birds catch the freshest and fleshiest fish from Negombo Fish Market – as the fresh catch is brought on shores by fishermen early in the morning. The fish market gets busy around 4 am in the morning with fishermen, vendors and buyers who have come across the island to buy the best fish. As the sunlight kisses the golden beach, the families of the fishermen start cutting the fresh fish from the fishing boats preparing them for drying. By day time the thousands of fish laid out to dry in the sun on coir mats is a common sight. While in Negombo don’t forget to visit the Hamilton Canal, Dutch fort, the churches and Hindu Kovils.
