Minneriya National Park
Located in the North Central province of Sri Lanka, Minneriya National Park is a must-tour safari destination in Sri Lanka. This 8889-hectare park is a well-known spot to observe elephants in their natural habitats as Minneriya National Park takes the trophy as the largest elephant gathering spot in Asia – because the park links Kaudulla and Wasgamuwa parks. At Minneriya elephant herds can be seen throughout the year. Herds of elephants sometimes consisting of more than two hundred elephants gather round the Minneriya Reservoir to drink water – a must visit sight if you are traveling to Sigiriya/Polonnaruwa.
Apart from elephants Minneriya National Park is home to 170 species of birds and mammals such as leopards, sloth bear, spotted deer, sambar deer, wild buffalo, wild pig, grey langers, purple-faced leaf monkey, mongoose, porcupine and Indian Pangolin.
