Kandy
The glory of the hill country - the city of Kandy is the second largest city of the island which is in the hill country in 488m altitude. The term “Kandy” was originated during the colonial time, as a result of referring the hill country and its kingdom by the Sinhala term “kanda” (mountain). Today the city is a cultural hub demonstrating the proud history and local traditions to its visitors. Kandy is home to the most sacred holy Temple of Tooth Relic (aka Sri Dalada Maligawa) and its vibrant cultural festival – Kandy Esala Perahera is a must experience cultural extravaganza with traditional dancers, tuskers decorated in shimmering festive costumes and of course beautifully lighted streets.

On your way to the Kandy another must visit place is the Peradeniya Botanical Garden. Located 5.5 km from the City of Kandy, Peradeniya is home to Royal Botanical Garden which is famous for its collection of orchids. The garden consists of variety of flora including 4000 species of spices, orchids, palm trees etc.
Gadaladeniya temple, Peradeniya Gardens, Embekke Temples, Lankathilaka temple, Hantana Mountains, Knuckles Range, and Udawatte Kele are must visit religious temples and sites in Sri Lanka.
