Vesak Festival
Vesak is the religious celebration of Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and parinibbana. During the festive season, Buddhists decorate their houses with lanterns and other colorful decorations. During night people visit major cities to see the Thoran and lanterns which create a scenic view and to enjoy charity food distributed in ‘Dunsal’ (Freely giving foods, coffee, tea, cool drinks from people).
Many temples are full of devotees and pilgrims to commemorate this event. Buddhists in the temple, offering flowers, lights and burned incense. These traditional memorial activities have their value to satisfy the religious and emotional needs of the people. Buddhists generally wear white dresses and go to the temple to participate in traditional ceremonies. Many of them spent a whole day in the temple and reiterated their determination to follow the Buddha's teachings.
