Renowned as the Land of Sapphires – Sri Lanka is a mesmerizing island blessed with rich soil bearing precious gem stones. Due to the abundance of gems the island was also known as Ratna-dweepa (Island of gems).

The National Kite Festival is a place where creativity has soared to the top, as people of all ages and backgrounds show their craftsmanship and paint the sky, each with a different shadow. A competitor of the kite festival can be anyone, a group or an organization, but the festival is open to everyone. Kites vary in shape and size and are usually made of dried leaves and colored paper and saree. Typically, there is the longest comets competition or the most innovative comets natural resource competition.

The kite competition will be open to children (under 14 years old) and the most creative open category of kites. The national heritage kite will have an open category called the best combat kite (the kite should not be less than 1 1/2 feet, using 'Combuwa' or 'Waula' style.

Improve the creativity and skills of kite enthusiasts in the context of the "Kite Flight" campaign, while giving them the freedom to see opportunities beyond the border, such as kites in the high sky. The organization hopes to make everyone's flying dreams come true through their own kites.
