Sri Lanka

Duruthu Perahera is one of the most culturally honored parades celebrated by devotees of Duruthu in January. The main celebration takes place every January before the full moon day of poya in the historic Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya (Temple) to commemorate Buddha's third visit to Sri Lanka.

In 1927, the son of Helen Wijewardena, Don Walter Wijewardena, decided to use his own perahera to hold Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya, following the lines of Sri Dalada Perahera or Esala Maha Perahera in Kandy. Duruthu Maha Perahera was named and will take the streets for 91 consecutive years, accompanied by years of grandiosity and spectacular scenes.

The vanguard of the spiritual parade will be the whip, and the whip that lashed them announces the next perahera. From then on, the artist of the fireball, the hevisi band followed the standard airline that carried the flag of the province of Sri Lanka and used its pipes and drums to add music to the perahera. Peramuna Rala on her elephant will enter the dance group, and elephants with elephants will appear between different parts of the perahera. Then, the enthusiastic crowd gathered on the street has been waiting for the moment: the majestic appearance of the temple's tusk and the sacred relics of Buddha carry the howdah.
